My question doesn't really relate to a technical issue per se but it's something I was asked recently by a client and I think it might be of interest to other Across users.

Can Across (and other CAT tools) be safely used for projects under a Non-Disclosure Agreement (considering that texts are saved to an external server)? The client worries that other Across users might be able to access the information sent to the server, i.e. use other people's glossaries and TM. I haven't quite

I haven't quite figured out all of Across's functionalities yet, thus I'm not sure whether this is a possibility or not. Thank you for your help.

Your client and I share the same misgivings.

I'm not an Across user myself, and like the asker am not sure whether this is a possibility or not, but it seems simply common sense to avoid the use of external or shared databases /servers when confidentiality really is an issue. Hence my initial reluctance to join the current throng of cloud computing enthusiasts...

As far as I'm aware, Across can be installed in two ways:

1. As a standalone version with local SQL database: in this case, all data are stored on your local machine.

2. As an remote client only version, in which case you can only receive external projects that have been prepared for you, e.g. by a translation agency. In this case, the confidentiality issues don't involve you personally, but are rather handled between the translation agency and the client.

Or is there another licensing scheme, such as hiring server space directly at Across?
