under Translators and Interpreters:
Building cleaning person-Interpreter
Description: Duties include cleaning work at the building grounds and
serve as a Finnish-Russian-Armenian interpreter at the construction site.

When multi-tasking was introduced at BBC Monitoring under John Birt's bureaucratic regime (thankfully now ended), it was known as "multiskilling". I wrote a poem about it at the time.
There was once a famous British Army regiment called the Inniskilling Fusiliers. Their name and traditions partly live on in a new regiment, whose marching song is given below. It is to the tune of "The British Grenadiers".

I scrimped and saved and studied
For a modern languages degree.
And then, where did they put me?
In the canteen, pouring cups of tea!
She who poured the tea is now D.G.,
But not too good at it, one fears.

The man who sweeps the floor here
Was a high-up in the BBC.
His Name is Bert, he tells me,
But he says it's spelt B-I-R-T.
Well, it's he who got us in this mess,
So I'll not buy him any beers.

Jack, thank you so much for this lovely piece of art... I could feel the heavy atmosphere of the canteen, and listen to the raging voices of the soldiers... that was really GREAT!

These two, mentioned at the beginning of The Multiskilling Fusiliers, were well known names at BBC Monitoring but will not be known here, so perhaps I should say something about them.
George Schatunowski was a remarkable character. He was a qualified physicist, an accomplished bridge and chess player, a pilot (he flew Douglas Havocs in the Soviet Air Force in the Second World War), and after finding his way to the West at the end of the war, became a Russian monitor at BBC M... Vova Rubinstein was more of an "organisation man", who worked his way up from monitoring (in several languages) in the Second World War to become head of Reception Department. Together with Olive Renier, he wrote a book about monitoring during the Second World War, called "Assigned to Listen" (published by BBC External Services 1986 - ISBN number 0563-205 083, probably not in print but well worth reading if you can find a copy). ▲ Collapse

How many Finnish/Russian/Armenian persons are there in this world? Those guys must be very optimistic! At least they could have posted on Proz.
