...and what do you mean by "perfectionist"? Someone who needs more time? After all, 1000 words per day is half of what a professional translator is supposed to be able to handle on average...

You are right Lisa. Whoever makes a living out of translation is a professional translator. In that sense are we not all professionals? But one has to distinguish between an experienced Pro and an inexperienced one. The issue in question here is that of the beginner. For him or her the 2000 words per day is pretty stiff without the help of CAT. 1000 words per day is a descent begining. But if he is a beginner as well as a perfectionist (The guy who consults something like 10 different reference books for a single word and tries 20 different combinations for a single sentence and settle for the one which has the approval of his spouse, his neighbour, his friend and his postman )will hardly finish 500 words per day. I am using the "perfectionist" word for somebody who is thoroughly "unprofessional". Believe me, such people exist.

I have been sufferring from the "Perectionist" syndrome for a long time and has been trying desparately to get out of it.

I just did a sample work for a potential client. He said he was totally satisfied with my work, and asked me to plese send him my rates. So, my question is should I send him another e-mail, with a lower quote, or just wait for him to reply? I don't want to lose him as a potential customer, because it sounds like he may have quite a bit of repeat work. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks in advance.
By the way, I found a resource on TranslatorsCafe.com for rates for translators (just look on the navigation menu on the left for "Translation Rates"). I wouldn't go strictly and solely by this, but it least it gives you somewhat of an idea of the general market. Good luck!
