What translation project are you working on right now?
Just started working on a bigger job: translation of various legal documents for website visitors (data privacy, cookies, etc.). EN>DE; 14,000 words that will keep me busy for the next couple of days - yay :-) 7,000 words EN>DE, medical, product brochures for patient transfer aids. Interesting subject, even for some sunday work. :-) Legal documents, FRZ>DE, about 10,000 words, labour law-related; very interesting case; tight deadline but I am happy because I get way more English than French texts, and I really enjoy working on this project. Translation of a diversity & inclusion report, almost 5,000 words, EN>DE. Interesting topic but tight deadline today - got up extra early but look forward to starting the weekend earlier, too. :-) MTPE project, FR>DE, general information about developments in the automotive industry, abbout 7,000 words. The MT output is very much okay, I have to admit. Currently working on a huge contract, 23,000 words from English to German, with a tight deadline (of course), therefore working this sunday. Thankful for coffee and the first homemade Christmas cookies. EN>DE translation of an NDA, about 2,000 words. Enjoying this legal translation after weeks of working on medical stuff and transcriptions. Preparing for an interpreting assignment. Topic: agriculture and new technologies, smart farming. German into English simultaneous interpreting. I find the topic very interesting and look forward to seeing the technology in use in live demos. My client needs summaries of audio interviews. The interviews are in French, the summaries have to be in German. Not really a standard translation job but I love it when clients ask me if I can also help them with "unusual" jobs. Broadens my mind! Currently testing my project management skills for a big transcription project into several languages. I kind of like it but would not really want to do it as a full-time job... Luckily, there are many PMs who really like it! ;-) Translation of a distribution agreement, about 11,000 words, EN to German. I'm working on two small translations that will serve as sample translations for an English course (preparation for a translation certificate). I also have to include notes on my approach, so that newbies will know what might be done differently, where free translations are better than literal ones, where thorough research is required, etc. I enjoy this because it also raises my awareness (again) for specific aspects of our work, things that we usually do automatically after a while. I find it interesting to see that MT can deliver good results for some sentences but then again comes up with crappy translations for other sentences. This gives me hope that we humans will still be needed in the future! Transcription of an interview with a physician (DE-EN), medical market research, 75 minutes, about a rare hematological disease. Always interesting to learn new things - and words. Currently working on the transcription of an interview. Medical field. The interview is in German and the transcript has to be in English. Always a challenge, always something I enjoy - although sometimes, this medical stuff can be rather sad. Rush job about incident management; 5k words; EN-DE. This will be a looooong working day. Supported by CAT tool and coffee :) Proofreading an annual financial statement in Trados, EN-DE, about 3,000 lines. Presentation of some operas, FR-DE, total of 650 lines - quite a nice topic to work on during the weekend. Transcription of interviews with physicians and nurses; DE-EN; nephrology Software training presentations, 521 ppt slides, about 33,000 words, EN-DE. Although it is not a nice topic because the quality of life of patients is severely impaired, I like to work on this stuff. Medical texts are always interesting, and I always learn something new with every job. Plus, transcription is different from typical translation jobs. First project in the new year: about 5,000 words, instructions and information about customs formalities, EN-DE. Starting to work on it during the weekend to make sure that the first "real" working day of the year will run smoothly. Huge Covid-related project, 68,000 words (though many repetitions), 305 Word pages, EN-DE. Company-internal guidelines for tests and employees returning to work. Full speed ahead! Finally French again! :) I am always happy when clients send FR-DE translations, and this one is a project in several batches. About 8,000 words in total, FAQ files for HR intranet functions. Listening to the first of a series of medical interviews I have to interpret (DE - EN). Topic: airway clearance therapy. I enjoy this new kind of interpretation - not too much time pressure from the client, so I can follow my own rhythm. Plus, I always find this medical stuff interesting and can learn new things (and words) en passant. About 6,000 words EN-DE, instructions and GTC for a parcel service provider, country-specific guidelines, not really fun stuff but thanks to many repetitions, it is not too lengthy.
