Dear colleagues,

Please advise how to restore Trados functionality with MS Word. I use Trados 7.5 and Word 2003. After translating a footnote, Trados toolbar disappeared from Tools > Customize > Toolbars, though TRADOS7.dot was present in "Templates and Add-ins". To restore Trados toolbar, I tried the following:

Can you please suggest any other solutions?

Thank you,
Karen

Normal.dot Jun 1, 2011

Hi Karen,

Try finding your normal.dot file (probably in c:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\\Normal.dot) and deleting it. Word will create a new one. If you have made any special settings in Word and don't want to lose them, you can move the file instead of deleting it, and then import what you need via Tools > Macros > Macro > Organizer. Then add the Trados template. Hope that helps.

Normal.dot did not help Jun 1, 2011

Dear Adam,

Thank you. I did as you suggested but it again did not work. I know, this trick is useful when an error occurs with Multiterm but this problem with Trados seems more serious.

Restore from Windows CD? Jun 2, 2011

Hi Karen,

Do you happen to have a Windows CD from which you could reinstall your system?
I've had a similar problem recently with TRADOS, and it's gone now that I've performed my yearly Windows reinstallation.

Nicolas

Hi, Nicolas.

Is Windows reinstallation the only solution?

Macros Jun 2, 2011

Hi, Carvallo.

I preformed Tools > Macro > Macros > "Macros in Trados7.dot" > Add > Run then closed Word and opened it again but there was no effect. Did I perform the sequence correctly?

This has happened to me, and I believe there is a known problem with footnotes.
The answer is somewhere in the Trados Knowledgebase.

After applying their solution, the Multiterm toolbar appeared but Trados again is not present. However, I can activate Trados by running its macro each time I open Word because after closing the document and reopening it Trados macro needs to be run again. However, this partial solution is much better than nothing.

Thanks all of you.
