Source text - English At present it´d be impossible carry on trade any kind of bargain without the help of banks.
Banks render the following services to businessmen: 1.° accept money in deposit, on interest; 2.° keep current accounts with clients, collect from other banks on behalf of their clients, bank drafts, dividends, etc. Drawn on the client for a third party; 3° discount credit letters and promissory notes; 4.° advance money to their clients, as a loan, with their duly warranties, such as a deposit of any property value, deed of property or warranty of a person or solvent sign; 5.° take in custody in their safes securities, stocks, deeds and other values belonging to their clients; 6.° allow the public to draw sums of money to distant places through the service of telegraphic drafts.
Banks also supply their customers with letters of credit and traveller´s cheques, so convenient to business men, tourists and travellers in general.
Some banks have a Savings Bank Department which pays a small interest on deposits.
It´s interesting to remark that savings banks were first suggested by the novelist Daniel Dafoe in 1697 but nearly a century elapsed before they were actually established.
As we can see banks are one of the most important tools for manage our money, but it hasn´t always been as such. A bank was originally a bench set up in the market-place for the exchange of money, the earliest banks were found in the temples of Egypt and Babylon thousands of years before the Christian era.
At a much later period, about 575 B.C. we hear of a famous Babylonian private bank that has been compared to the rotchilds´ of 19th century Europe.
In Greece the great temples of Ephesus and Delphi were the most powerful banking institutions and in Rome certain temples engaged in financial transactions too, while private bankers had their offices in the Forum. Money was coined in the temple of Juno Moneta.
With the end of the civilization of antiquity banking degenerated for a period of some centuries and during the Middle Ages people entrusted their money to the churches and monasteries.
In 1148 the San Giorgio bank was formed in Genoa and shortly after the first Venetian bank was constituted.
In England the London goldsmiths acted as bankers for many years, until the Bank of England was founded at the close of XVII century.

Los bancos también proveen a sus clientes cartas de crédito cheques de viajero, muy convenientes para los empresarios y viajeros en general.
Algunos bancos tienen Sector Departamento de Caja de Ahorros por los cuales pagan un pequeño interés sobre los depósitos .
Es interesante resaltar que las cajas de ahorro fueron primeramente sugeridas por el novelista Daniel Dafoe en 1967, pero tras casi un siglo más tarde estas fueron establecidas
Como podemos ver, los bancos son una de las herramientas más importantes para administrar nuestro dinero, pero no siempre ha sido así.
