Japanese term

クラスタの定義

Japanese to English Tech/Engineering Computers: Systems, Networks
I have to confess, it's not really that phrase that I don't understand, but the entire sentence:

CallManagerの設定におけるクラスタの定義はDNS障害によるインパクトを回避するため、ホスト名ではなくIPアドレスを使用する。

I can translate each word in that sentence, but I can't construct a sentence that makes sense in English....

defining a cluster

Cool, Cisco Call Manager!

In order to avoid the possibility of DNS issues, when defining a cluster in Call Manager settings, use the IP address instead of the host name.

disagree krishna mallick : the translation is not this

agree Will Matter : Kurts answer is correct.

agree Mayumi Koide : Kurt's understanding is correct. This must be an instruction manual. "should be" may be too strong, but "use" is mild bus still an imperative way. It the author meant to say "uses," he would write 使用しています in this case.

cluster definition

In order to avoid any influence/impact due to DNS fault, the cluster definition in CallManager settings uses IP address and not the host name.
Peer comment(s):

disagree Kurt Hammond : It is possible to use either host name or IP address. 使用する actually means more like "should be used" in this instance. In Japanese, を使用するdoes not mean "uses" (that would be を使用しています。)

here, を使用する and を使用しています have same meanings as i gave above. because this looks like instruction.
disagree Will Matter : Not really.

disagree Mayumi Koide : 使用する can be plain "uses" or "should be used," depending upon the nature of the document or context. In this case, the text looks like in some kind of manual, so "should be used" is correct.

I am confident about my answer. nobody but casey can decide. even Kurt did not write 'should use', and my sentence has smooth flow
