Glossary entry (derived from question below)
anglais term or phrase:
(cap, heel or toe) bead
français translation:
cordon
anglais term
cap, heel or toe bead
high performance glass or plastic" due to the high surface tension in these materials.
I found this great diagram specifying where the beads are located in the window construction: http://chicagowindowexpert.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/al...
I have also seen the following posts that provide some individual translations (toe bead and heel bead), but have not found a translation for all three... This is for a product data sheet, so the instructions need to be accurate. Is anyone on this platform familiar with beads in glazing applications? Do you know of a dictionary that would contain these specific terms?

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.
How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:
An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)
A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).
Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.
When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.
* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Do note, though that 'bead' also has a different meaning in glazing, where it is really short for 'beading' (normally 'baguette'), but in the sense of 'glazing bead' is, I think, 'pareclose' — and I strongly suspect this is actually what you have here.
As for the positional elements cap / toe / heel, those should really be a separate question(s), but if you have already find the separate terms, that's probably all you need — note that the source text really means: "a cap bead, a heel bead, or a toe bead..."
Hi Tony, thanks for the thorough answer and for differentiating the various bead types!
I have found toe & heel bead translations, but nothing for cap bead Is this something you're familiar with?

Here is a diagram depicting the location of each bead : http://chicagowindowexpert.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/alwin-anatomy-12.gif
|

Bonjour mchd! Merci pour la référence. Ce produit est plutôt un mastic utilisé à des fins de calfeutrage et non dans un contexte de soudure. Par contre, le site ISO est une excellente idée. Je tenterai d'y trouver le lexique du bâtiment/génie civil. |
