Sometimes a well-placed nail is all you need to
firmly fasten a part in a cabinet or piece of furniture.
Stay away from common nails, though.
They’re wonderful for carpentry, but too big for
woodworkers. Box nails, however, are great for
small work such as attaching a cabinet back. The
shank is stiff and won’t bend, yet the head is relatively
small and won’t jump out at you. Cut nails
come in handy for period-furniture reproductions.
Brads and finish nails are probably the most
common nails used in furniture. Great for thin
moldings and trim, a brad can be set below the
surface in a hole so small you can barely see it.
Finish nails can be puttied over to blend with
your woodwork.
In contrast to pneumatic nailing, you generally
need to pre-bore a pilot hole in solid wood for the
nail you’ll be hand driving, or the material is likely
to split (A).
[ TI P ] If you can’t find the right size drill
bit for a finish nail, you can snip off the
head and use the snipped end to drill the
pilot hole for the same size nail.
Use a nail set of the appropriate diameter to drive
the nail below the surface (B). This not only
allows you to hide the head of the nail but helps
seat the joint.
Finish up by puttying over the nail hole or by
using a colored filler to match the finish (C).

da par mai mici și mai subțiri..cum le cheamă??? mici și subțiri???
Box nails are typically used on thinner wood material (like wood boxes) to reduce splitting.

Box — a wire nail with a head; box nails have a smaller shank than common nails of the same size. (hank — the body the length of the nail between the head and the point; may be smooth, or may have rings or spirals for greater holding power)
Deci "box nails" sunt mai scurte decat "common nails" Nu vad nicio informatie referitor la lungime....
