When people were not used to cars, some used to tell the drivers to get a horse, because the vehicles looked wrong without a horse pulling them.

Cars were at that time often referred to as \"horseless carriages\". The sceptics were saying the pioneers should get a horse to pull their carriage, because they thought it unnatural to have a carriage which was not drawn by a horse.
