Broken pet

English to French Art/Literary Poetry & Literature teenager\\\'s fantasy fic
Along the back wall of the inn, there sat a single table in a corner. Around it huddled six men, plus the Wall and the Weasel.
Adriana blurted out, “That’s them! They burned down my shop. Bind them by law!”
The Magistrate jumped when the young woman shouted behind her. She bellowed, “What are you doing here? I told you to go home!” The older woman tried to turn Adriana away.
“I told you, I’ve no home. Weasel burned it down.”
The men around the table howled in laughter. The verbal assault did not amuse Mister Ferriday, especially in front of his business associates.
“Magistrate, you’ve no reason to harass me in my place of business. Now please take your broken pet and leave.”

Notre heroine s'est plainte auprès de la Magistrate, qui faute de preuves ne peut engager de poursuites. Après avoir ete expulsée de son bureau, elle la suit dans la rue .."Once the Magistrate left her office, Adriana followed. Not the stalking kind of followed, but a respectful ten paces back. Her mother taught her manners, after all.
Lucky for Adriana, the Magistrate felt secure in her position and never dreamed a person would follow her, let alone a slightly strange woman-child. She tracked her straight to a lowlife dive of an inn called The Inn of the World, the name proclaimed by a sign with a globe being split in half by a massive lightning bolt.
Adriana found it easy to follow the Magistrate straight into the inn. With all the shutters closed, the inside remained dark, even though it was early morning. Adriana had never been to this part of town or in an inn like this. It stank of sweaty bodies and the sweet aroma of sex. Alcohol flowed freely even at this early hour, and she needed to work to keep from losing her sandals which stuck to the floor.
She walked carefully so as not to touch a thing in this horrible place. "

Yvonne Gallagher Jan 26, 2021:
@ Marlene glad to help. "batarde galeuse" would seem to fit.
marlene Le Duc (X) (asker) Jan 25, 2021:
@ Yvonne , you got it ! As long as we now at this time of the books there is no mention of a father in her life.
So "batarde galeuse" pourrait correspondre. Merci
Yvonne Gallagher Jan 25, 2021:
@ Asker surely "broken pet" refers to Adriana who is following behind the Magistrate? Like a shadow or a mangy dog? So Ferriday says the equivalent of: "get out of here Magistrate and take that mangy mongrel/cur with you!" So something like "cabot galeux" or feminine equivalent though mongrel/cur usually seen as masculine. Or something with dirty bitch? (bitch a female dog) Or your miserable shadow...something very pejorative anyway

I think that the broken pet is a derogatory way to refer to one of the 6 men around the table, probably the "Weasel":
"Around it huddled six men, plus the Wall and the Weasel."
"Weasel burned it down.”

The lady is mad and refers to him as a broken pet.

DEFINITION
Un sbire désigne généralement un individu répondant aux ordres d'un chef de gang ou d'un groupe d'influence, chargé d'exécuter les basses oeuvres et dont les méthodes sont essentiellement imprégnées par la violence et la menace.
