Does this have more than one meaning? I've heard both "little bug" and "little pepper"...

small pepper, small animal (bug, etc.) or affectionate term used to refer to children etc.
The word 'bitxo' can be used to refer to these red, hot, cayenne peppers (Capsicum frutescens - usually the dried version) or to small animals. It can also be used in an affectionate way when talking to/about a child, e.g.: 'És un bitxo!'
Friends of mine - ornithologists - when out birdwatching often refer to the birds as 'bitxos' too! So, it's not only used when talking about insects.
So, 'bitxito' would be a diminutive of the above.

'small bug', 'tiny bug', 'little rascal'
This term can have different meanings, dependent on the context. If the context is biological or animal related you would use the 'bug' translation. If the context is a familiar one, such as when you talk about a small child, you would use the 'rascal' translation.
