Hello guys, urgently...I am translating an Austrian German manual for the system administsration of an e-learning tool. The words Kurs and Lehrgang both appear for different concepts, of course, but I can't find a suitable other word for Lehrgang - course is obviously not going to work if Kurs is course. I have tried syllabus, learning path...please, can someone help?

learning pathway
Learning pathway is described as the chosen route, taken by a learner through a range of (commonly) e-learning activities, which allows them to build knowledge progressively.

Conveniently mirrors the inherent structure of Lehr/gang.
Alternatively 'learner pathway'

I don't understand why Orla has thrown her weight behind 'seminar'. This is by definition a one-off event which the learner attends. Nor why she is so keen to steer you away from 'learning pathway'. The learner may indeed choose to proceed along this pathway but will in any case be guided in this choice by a tutor.

Note from asker:
thanks, this is helpful. I have also since found Course of study, but this is almost better. |

Both Kurse and Lehrgänge consist of a series of events. Kurse don't have to be of a practical nature (development and practice of specific skills), but Lehrgänge typically are. But I admit, the distinction can often be a bit blurry.

Here's practically the same "Lehrgang" from Oxford:
https://www.conted.ox.ac.uk/courses/effective-online-tutorin...
The difference to the first link I gave below is that there is no exam at the end of this Oxford "course," whereas a "Lehrgang" is usually supposed to have one (at least that's what the link said).
Learning pathway explained:

Not sure that's a match (more about approach than content). OT: But the text also includes someting that may be related to your other question: "Conventional e-learning relies on the SCORM module (sometimes called the SCO – ‘shareable content object’ by those in the business)."
When I search the Internet based on the criteria from your first discussion post and compare them with ENS sources (e.g., http://www.open.ac.uk/courses/types ), I frequently come up with words such as diploma or certificate:

"In higher education in Canada and the United States, a course is a unit of teaching that typically lasts one academic term, is led by one or more instructors (teachers or professors), and has a fixed roster of students. It is usually an individual subject. Students may receive a grade and academic credit after completion of the course.
In the United Kingdom, Australia and Singapore, as well as parts of Canada, a course is the entire programme of studies required to complete a university degree, and the word "unit" or "module" would be used to refer to an academic course as it is referred to in other parts of the world, for example North America and the rest of Europe."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Course_(education)
Austria-specific:
https://www.uibk.ac.at/weiterbildung/ulg/
https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lehrgang
See emphasis in bold - so it's from the same root word as "Kurs."
Does this help?

Also says something about "Training" and "Schulung" in German. Basically, not in line with any of the answers.

Ramey's "Seminar" solution looks great in a US context, in the UK a seminar would often refer to a single class or a one-day training course, although I expect there is some cross-over in some academic institutions.
