German term

Startreif

German to English Tech/Engineering Mechanics / Mech Engineering
I might as well keep the specific terms here, because this is a public product. I am translating the transcription for a presentation video from Siemens about their TIA Portal. (See this website for context:http://w3.siemens.com/mcms/mc-solutions/en/engineering-softw...

These SINAMICS motors must of course be engineered in the TIA Portal. Let's take a closer look at this. SINAMICS „Startreif im TIA Portal“? allows integrated engineering in a project for SIMATIC, SINAMICS, or SIMOTICS components. So anyone here who is already familiar with the configuration and programming of S7 controllers will have no trouble programming a motor in the TIA Portal.

Transciption error I just read Johanna's question and this actually sounds like the most logical answer. Very worth checking into!
Johanna Timm, PhD Jun 15, 2015:
a transcription error? Flaggthecat, you say that you are translating a transcription. Could the transcriber have misheard "Startreif" for "Startdrive?"

German term (edited): SINAMICS „Startreif im TIA Portal“

TIA portal-ready SINAMICS

German often does things the other way round, a trait shared with French. And what a relief to get rid of those silly upside down double quotation marks!

All set for TIA portal

Looks like the authors want to keep that slogan intact - hence the quotation marks..

SINAMICS “All set for TIA portal” allows for integrated engineering in a project for SIMATIC, SINAMICS, or SIMOTICS components.

Ready to go in the TIA Portal

While I agree with Lancashireman's explanation and translation, I also feel that the quotation marks indicate a slogan that should be retained as such. "All set for" to me implies that you still need to do something to get it there, it's not quite there yet. "Startreif" in this context means it's integrated and ready to go, hence my suggestion.

"SINAMICS "Ready to go in the TIA Portal" allows integrated engineering in a project for SIMATIC, SINAMICS, or SIMOTICS components."

You could also just say "Integrated in the TIA Portal" but then you might want to find another word for the next "integrated" in the sentence to avoid the repetition.

Anyway, food for thought, I hope.

If you create a G120 with Startdrive in a Scout TIA project then you can connect the axis in Scout TIA to this drive but the drive itself must be configured with STARTDRIVE in the TIA Portal.
