The new EU languages have to be taken into account!

Eurodicautum is of no use whatsoever in my language pair (LV-EN), so it does make me wonder why freelance translators working with the new official languages have so few 'official' resources available to them.
Exactly! I mean, I have almost no resources in my "exotic" language pairs (PL/RO > IT): lack of dictionaries, existing dictionaries full of mistakes, almost no colleague to confront with, no Eurodicautom, now no IATE...
I guess we should do something! And with "we" I mean those who work with the new EU languages and anybody who wants to give a helping hand.

IATE login
Jul 6, 2005
Further to my earlier post, I contacted one of the agencies that sub-contracts a large number of EC jobs to me. The agency provided me with their login details, so I can now access the IATE database.
I recommend that anyone else who translates EC texts does the same. Unfortunately I cannot pass on the login details to anyone else (EC rules, not mine!)

I completely forgot to do that!
However, I still think it's not fair, because many fellow
translators/students who work with the new languages have really scant resources.
Cheers,
Paola

Sorry to come in late here

It's not true that IATE will be exclusively for EU Agencies. They are simply not yet ready for visitors.
The official word on plans for IATE may be found here:
In the same way that Eurodicautom and the SCIC portal are public resources - built as they are with taxpayers' money - IATE will be open to freelance translators and all European citizens.
