Hi everyone !
I'm very much interested in subtitling and I wonder how much could earn a freelance subtitler (especially from English to French, but comments for any pair interest me).
I read many topics about rates on proz, and I have a relatively clear idea about how much a freelance translator can earn, but I know it's different for subtitling, which is said to be very badly paid...
Anyone here that could inform me ?

A pointer to a place with this kind of information (here?) would do as well.
I just sent back a proficiency test, which cost me the usual time per word. So, are our word rates for texts comparable to what can be earned subtitling?

Hi All,
I subtitled a few TV programs and found it unjust to be charged by the minute ($2.00) That is, to tanslate 1000 words for the paltry $10.00 !!!

yes, I checked rates on several websites and it really seems that freelance subtitling is much more about the experience and the fun than about making a real income, especialyy compared to technical and general translation...
thats such a shame !
