It depends! There is a huge difference between organizing my own week at my convenience or being booked over the weekend by clients (weekends cost at least 25% more). I schedule my work and free time at my convenience, which means sometimes working during the weekend and having a day or two (or more) off in the middle of the week. I like the freedom of having my “weekend“ when I choose and taking days off when everyone else is “busy”...

Often, I choose to spend business hours differently, e.g. for chores or leisure, simply swapping them for weekend work. In that case, I charge my clients a regular fee. However, if they mail me on a Friday at 4 p.m. with a project due on Monday 9 a.m., I'll be happy to help them (if my private life allows for it) at a 50% surcharge. Usually, "suddenly" later delivery is possible

I try to avoid evening work where possible because I'm not at my best then, and would not accept any urgent project that requires me to work in the evening.

If it pays more, I might do it Jan 5

I always work on holidays/weekends... there's nothing special about that. But I assume by "holidays/weekends" the asker means "having to cancel non-work appointments".

Well, if a job comes in that requires me to cancel some of my non-work appointments, then I'll do it (i.e. cancel my other appointments) if the job pays enough. I've had this happen to me -- I might have an appointment to meet some friends for coffee, and then a large job comes in, and then I have to cancel with my

But "pays enough" is not determined by surcharges. A job might "pay enough" if it is a lot of work that is easy to do, even if the client's rate is the same as always. It must be literally more money, and not just percentage-wise more money. I'm not cancelling my life for EUR 10 that's bumped up by a 100% surcharge to EUR 20.

I do not work on holidays/weekends.
I used to do that by my own choice when I was too lazy or busy to get things done during the week, but my working hours are quite firm now. I like to have time when I don't even have to think about work or checking e-mails. Mentally, I'm just "off" and it would be very hard now to make myself work in my "free time", even if I still could. I also can not remember the last time when I had to do that.

Yes Jan 5

I always charge extra, as pretty much any professional or tradesperson would.

I don’t need to compete by underselling myself.

I don't work on holidays and weekends, unless I feel like working for any reason.
