My Mother Dec 14, 2023

My mother went back to university as a mature student, which inspired me to do the same. The rest is history.

My grandfather... Dec 14, 2023

...A war veteran with an affinity for literature, a dignified, fair, and compassionate man who did not have the chance for formal education but read all the books that came his way. His influence is present daily in my life, although it's been 20 years since his passing.

My work ethics was influenced by my parents. They both were hard workers. My translation life has been most influenced by my customers. Without them, namely my long-standing clients, I wouldn’t have a career…

My parents Dec 14, 2023

It's hard to imagine that any other persons than your parents could influence (for the bad or for the good) you more during your lifetime (provided they live through your childhood and puberty).

That's diffcult to say and pick one (if the question is related to our profession), but as someone who has always been fascinated by ancient civilizations, I would say... Alexander the Great, conqueror and military genius, he extended the Greek culture throughout the known world during the Hellenistic period.

Lemmy Dec 14, 2023

Lemmy Kilmister was the person that sent me on my journey to become a bass player with a harsh "singing" voice. No regrets.

What about propaganda artists? Dec 14, 2023

They are not even on the list, how come? Doesn't propaganda influence people? There's always a time for a nice piece of propaganda. I know it, trust me

The last verse is a cop-out. He should've written about what it's like to see clear as day how you've messed your own kids up in turn, and are largely powerless to do anything about it.

Obviously my parents, but also various teachers. Mrs Fyfe, whose broomstick we never quite managed to catch sight of and who only ever spoke in French, leaving most of us bewildered at first but then pushing us up the steepest of learning curves, Mr Cook who wrote in my school report of my "refreshing originality" and told us of his travels through Europe, the history teacher whose name I can't remember who taught us about Gandhi and the revolutions of the 20th century, Mr Hogben who in my last ... They all contributed something and it's impossible to say what kind of person I would be without any one of them.Collapse
