"In 1950 about 18m tonnes of fish was landed. By 1969 thi s had increased to 56m tonnes. However, the population of fish did not grow proportionately. The coastal anchovy fisheries of Peru, for example, produced 10.2m metric tonnes in 1971. The next year, the stocks were down to less than 1m metric tonnes. In 1992, overfishing led Canada to stop fishing on the Grand Banks."

: I have never heard of "megagrama" but it makes sense. By the way, there is no need in English to say "metric tonnes" as the "tonne" is already the metric form. You could say "metric TON", however.
