: To paddle your own canoe would correspond to "Her koyun kendi bacagindan asilir" I think we have to find something else. . .

The original means "one should manage their own deeds and should not rely on others for that" and so does the English "To paddle...". "Her koyun..." however is more like "one cannot rescue/save others" . Slightly different meaning..

Biliyorsunuz, Turk atasozleri, kendi kultur ve yasam deneyimleri ile ozdeslestirilmis. Ingilizce olanlarda burdaki insanlarin deneyimleri ile. Ama sozler farkli diye, anlamlar farkli demek degil tabiki. Bizim ABD'de kullandigimiz "If you want something done, you've gotto do it yourself."
