Discussion

ulvaferry (asker) Mar 23, 2015:
I understand the meaning of the phrase, but am looking for a translation
Simon Charass Mar 23, 2015:
@ ulvaferry It sound like some dancers, primo/a ballerino/a, have a choice to perform in a lesser parts, and others don’t.

Principal dancer (with no soloist obligations)

higher in the hierarchy than soloist or demi-soloist.
you can specify if you want
'with no soloist obligation' - I would forgo 'performance' as obvious and too much of a mouthful.
Peer comment(s):

agree writeaway : I'd still stick with primo ballerino in this context.

Quite a mouthful, not sure if there is a more specific and concise term. HTH
