Discussion

Shabelula Mar 26, 2018:
can't you use boarder in this case, too?
philgoddard Mar 26, 2018:
In primary and secondary education, it means boarder. I don't know if this person is a resident, or whether it just means internal student, ie they're registered for a diploma or degree rather than just doing it for fun.

enrolled student

This seems to be a situation specific to music schools (conservatori) in Italy - you can either sit exams as a regular, enrolled student (like an undergraduate); or you can apply to sit exams as an "external" student - those who don't have the possibility to enrol at music school for whatever reason (distance, cost, perhaps they did not pass the audition...) but want a certificate to show their skills.
