Indonesian term
abbreviation 'p.' in Indonesian legal document
Indonesian to English
Law/Patents
Law (general)
civil law
I am translating an Indonesian document in the field of Law.
Under 'Bukti Surat Surat' the documents that have been submitted in this case are listed.
For instance,
1. Copy surat keterangan pernikahan pemohon (P. 1)
2. Copy surat xxxx (P. 2)
What is 'P.' an abbreviation of here? Is it 'perkara'? If not, how would this best be translated into English (or Dutch)? Which abbreviation would be used?
Many thanks!

pembuktian / exhibit
My take is that p stands for pembuktian. The foillowing site:
http://www.duniakontraktor.com/alat-bukti-penggugat-pada-gug...
http://news.liputan6.com/read/352095/antasari-saya-bukan-dal...
√ shows that any document (link 1: original or copy, print or electronic) and non-document (link 2: pictures of wounds) can be presented to prove a case.
Regardless of the root Indonsian word of this P, the English equivalent shall be exhibit, which is, according to Merriam Webster's Dictionary of Law:
★★★exhibit a document or object produced and identified in court as evidence
Note from asker:
Thank you Mas Erich dan Andrew, saya memang sudah memutuskan untuk memilih kata 'exhibit' sebagai terjemahannya (atau tepatnya, terjemahan Belanda kata 'exhibit', yaitu 'bewijsstuk'). Tetapi yang sedikit mengherankan buat saya kok istilahnya sering ditulis sebagai berikut: 'bukti P1, bukti P2' dsb, bukan 'P1, P2' dsb saja... Mungkin agar lebih jelas... |

photocopy
'P' stands for 'photocopy'. It means that 'P.1' is an attached copy of document-1. We can use a phrase 'Attachment-1' for 'P.1' instead.
1. Foto copy KTP Nomor XXXXXXX Tanggal 30 Nopember 2009 yang dikeluarkan oleh Kelurahan Wijaya Kusumah, Grogol Petamburan, Jakarta Barat, diberi tanda P-1;

I think the English term that is eqivalent for the Indonesian term in "P.1", "P.2" and so on so forth in the document is "Evidence.1", "Evidence.2", and so on so forth.

Terima kasih atas sumbangan Anda. Yang susah untuk saya tadinya adalah 'p.'-nya itu singkatan dari kata apa? Tetapi sangat berguna jawaban Anda. |
