French term

réveil adaptée de la patiente

French to English Medical Medical (general) intensive care
This is in a discharge report - in the summary of progress in intensive care:

La patiente présente un réveil adaptée de la patiente, mais aussi par un tableau de déficit moteur global probablement multifactoriel (inflation hydro-sodée, amyotrophie, polyneuropathie de réanimation), freinant le sevraage ventilatoire.

My (literal) attempt is:
The patient presented with "patient adapted waking" and also global motor deficit, which was probably multifactorial (sodium and water retention, amyotrophy, intensive care polyneuropathy), preventing ventilator weaning.

All help appreciated, I have no idea what it is gettiing at!

Thanks in advance

Katie

Yes, flag it to the client. My contribution was only based on some sort of logic:)
SJLD Mar 16, 2012:
I would ask the client or at least flag it. It doesn't make much sense to me and I have been speaking French on a daily basis for 30 years, translating for over 20.
katiededman (asker) Mar 15, 2012:
Sadly it is the author's mistakes, not mine. I think Liz has hit the nail on the head with the spontaneous/uneventful awakening. I have chosen spontaneous as that fit the text best.

Thanks everyone for your inputs and comments. :o)
SJLD Mar 15, 2012:
Basically, the French is a bit dodgy, which makes me think there is an error somewhere - strange expression in any case.
SJLD Mar 15, 2012:
What is the diagnosis? Stroke? Has the pt been sedated?

Are the mistakes the author's or yours?
réveil adapté(e)
adapté de rather than adapté à
présente... (par) un tableau

amyotrophy - muscle wasting?
intensive care polyneuropathy - aka critical care/illness (poly)neuropathy

The previous paragraph would be helpful..

That's to say, in a flexible, personalised way, taking into account the patient and their history. Here's an informative and amusing link:
