French term

bassin-versant

Merci

Discussion

Wolf Draeger Sep 5, 2012:
Thus spake Wikipedia Other terms that are used to describe a drainage basin are catchment, catchment area, catchment basin, drainage area, river basin and water basin. In North America, the term watershed is commonly used to mean a drainage basin (though in other English-speaking countries, it is used only in its original sense, to mean a drainage divide).

So all three answers offered so far are acceptable, it's a matter of context and preference.

drainage basin

"The origin of the concept of the drainage basin (bassin versant in French) can be found with P.Buache, Louis XIVth’s official geographer, in his notion of the "river basin" (bassin de fleuve)."

"Watershed" is another possibility.

Watershed
