français term

"vente de marchandise" and "production vendue: biens, services, total "

français vers anglais Affaires / Finance Entreprise / commerce company figures
In a table the company has to submit their pre-tax figures for the fiscal year. Four figures are to be given: vente de marchandises (first box), production vendue: 1- biens, 2- services (second box) and total. What is the difference between biens and marchandise? I'm assuming biens cannot be assets or it would not appear under "production". Is it simply a distinction between goods bought and sold (marchandise) and goods produced and sold (production: biens)?
Many thanks for your help so far.

commodities/merchandise ..... & ..... goods and services

I would take the same meaning out of it as you have done. "Marchandise" is merchandise, or commodities in the sense of bought-and-sold, whereas "biens & services" mean "goods (manufactured) and services". I would givethe translation as "Commodity/merchandise sales" and "Sales of Products: 1. goods, 2. Services"

agree Hacene : marchandise=good sold; biens=goods; production vendue=production sold.

Hope this will help a bit

I found this from a Canadian government document about taxes:

"Le montant déclaré pour les marchandises Z0000, « Total des ventes des biens et services » (à la page 6) doitêtre la somme de toutes les ventes de marchandises déclarées"
In this sentence, it looks as if the company declares the total sales, then the breakdown (goods and services)and these separate entries must add up to the same total declared before.

In some documents I found, merchandise and produit was the same (except when companies sold products they have bought (not produced themselves) to use in production. In that case, those would be called "marchandise" as opposed to goods or services produced by the company, that would come under "production"
I don't think this is a good answer, but I may help you to found other data in the document you are translating or give a clue to someone else

Sales of goods - wholesale + sales of goods/service - retail

Just posting this to this question as I have just come across it in the IFRS guidelines. Distinction is whether company sells to wholesales for eg or operates its own retail outlets.
