"A settlement involving product liability claims against the manufacturer of a fire suppression link that failed to separate during a fire of an unknown cause..." Desde ya muchas gracias.

eslabón fusible/fundible [contra incendios]

I believe it's referring to what is also known as a "fusible link":

Fusible link
A mechanical fusible link is a device consisting of two strips of metal soldered together with a fusible alloy that is designed to melt at a specific temperature, thus allowing the two pieces to separate. Mechanical fusible links are utilized as the triggering device in fire sprinkler systems and mechanical automatic door release mechanisms that close fire doors in warehouses, etc.

What are Fusible Links?

Fusible links are temperature sensitive fire protection devices designed to be part of a fire protection system. The system is activated when the ambient temperature increases to the point that causes the fusible link to “break-apart”. At the point of breakage, it releases the pre-loaded fire protection device, thus restricting the spread of fire. Fusible links are manufactured under the most rigid quality procedures to assure the highest possible degree of uniformity and “break-away” reliability.

The fusible link is one of the simplest forms of heat detection devices. When links are used in a restaurant system, their purpose is to cause the system to function and extinguish the fire. Fusible links used in this manner are actually releasing devices that are heat actuated. They cause the system to automatically operate at a predetermined “fixed” temperature.

Most references to "fire suppression link" relate to a device designed by a particular company, but the mechanism is the same: a "link" (eslabón) designed to break apart when the ambient temperature reaches the required level at which the fire suppression system is supposed to activate.

You can see this proprietary device here:
The retracing roof uses fire suppression links that are both UL and FM Global listed to eliminate the need for additional fire detection and suppression systems inside the containment structure.

It consists of two metal plates welded together such that the weld melts when the temperature reaches a certain point.

agree Juan Gil : Me inclino mas a 'eslabón fundible' (o 'eslabón fundente'). De acuerdo con Robert.

It is not a detection system but a suppression system meaning it will put the fire out. Based on the context you have provided and the info I am including below it sounds like the system malfunctioned and the link did not separate.

Hope this helps.
How Fire Suppression Systems Work
The majority of restaurant hood fire suppression systems depend on a mechanical device called a fusible link. This device contains two pieces of metal connected with a special alloy engineered to melt at a specific temperature. When heat from a fire causes that to happen, the link separates and triggers the release of the fire-extinguishing chemical.

ASSEMBLE CEILING ATTACHMENT
r Determine where the Rack Hat will be assembled on the
ceiling grid. You can use either a plumb bob or laser.
r Draw a line, or use a laser line to establish where on the
drop ceiling grid you will assemble the Rack Hat.
r Next, twist the white clip onto the drop-ceiling grid.
r The 360-degree ball and the UL/FM rated link are already
attached to the ceiling clip.
r The 360-degree ball will slide into the aluminum track.
This 360-degree ball allows attachment to be on either the
parallel, or perpendicular part of the grid. Assemble the ceiling
attachment over the area you want the partition to hang.
