Some of my favorite edge tools, including
a variety of handplanes, are shown on the
facing page. I also favor wooden molding
planes, from beading and rabbeting planes to
hollows and rounds, when I want to work in
peace and quiet or to supplement my power
tools when they can’t cut the profile I need.
There are hundreds of molding planes available.
Nowadays, only a few molding planes
are produced commercially; instead, look for
them at flea markets and through antiquetool
dealers. Other important edge tools
include handsaws, files, rasps, and chisels for
all sorts of sawing and shaping tasks.
