Não sei qual o termo técnico que se usa em PT (ou se existe um termo padrão). Em texto que vai ser enviado ao processador do computador, quaisquer conjuntos de caracteres que significam um comando especial (ex. CRLF, que inicial uma nova linha) precisam ser "protegidos" por caracteres especiais que é uma mensagem para o processador assim: "não trate estes caracteres como um comando - interprete eles literalmente".
