Aqui depth não é tanto profundidade como uma terceira dimensão além de comprimento e largura.

De facto a existência de uma [dimensão de] profundidade não seria novidade nenhuma nem para o Homem primitivo. A novidade é conceber a Terra como um sólido tridimensional limitado e finito suspenso no espaço, e a terra como a superfície desse sólido.
Em eng podemos dizer: something has depth, it protrudes. Há que buscar a mesma ideia em Pt.
Aqui depth não é tanto profundidade como uma terceira dimensão além de comprimento e largura.
