Manufactured hierarchies are power systems that are created by default, as a model in opposition to the potential of a free zone of exchange, in order to prove that they don’t have to exist but in acknowledgment of the ongoing fact of their continued reappearance. Manufactured hierarchies fuel speculation and growth. They have no form, as their physicality is carefully disguised within the neo-liberal consensus by rhetorics of flow and transparency or the semi-actualised promise of good times just beyond reach. Manufactured hierarchies are those that are constructed in order to comprehend the way some things (commodities) are given, but only with the threat that they are contingent things that may well be taken away.
