The bioequivalence of two progesterone preparations was studied in vitro using human breast skin.
Gel A (Progestogel) was hydroalcoholic and gelified by carbopol 934.
Gel B contained Eutanol G and polyethylene glycol (PEG) 50 hydrogenated castor oil.
The bioequivalence was calculated from the quantities of progesterone found in the **survival liquid** alone, or associated with the quantities present in the epidermis and the dermis at the end of the test.
The absorption of Gel A measured in the **survival liquid** during the first six hours was significantly higher than that of Gel B. For prolonged contact times, this difference disappeared and was often inversed.
