German term

Benommenheitsschwindel

German to English Medical Medical (general) neurology
Does anyone know the EN term for Benommenheitsschwindel?

This text differentiates between Drehschwindel, Schwankschwindel and Benommenheitsschwindel.

I am struggling with the last one.

If you know, please share. (Please don't guess)

Thank you!

Discussion

Lirka (asker) Dec 25, 2022:
lightheadedness I added "unsystematic vertigo" as this is apparently its official classification
Dr. Christopher Kronen Dec 20, 2022:
I don't know that this distinction is actually made in English. Perhaps, dizziness due to lightheadedness? With other options I find myself defining dizziness by using dizziness itself which should be avoided.
Lirka (asker) Dec 20, 2022:
Benommenheit vs. Benommenheitsschwindel I know what Benommenheit means. But how do we differentiate b/w Benommenheit and Benommenheitsschwindel?

n Germany, VD symptoms can be differentiated in “Drehschwindel”, “Schwankschwindel”, and
“Benommenheitsschwindel” (Berlit, 2012). “Drehschwindel” compares to the English “vertigo”,
“Schwankschwindel” and “Benommenheitsschwindel” to “dizziness”. Dieterich (2004) described
dizziness or vertigo as the “perception of self- or object-motion or an unpleasant distortion of static
gravitational orientation, that is a mismatch between the three sensory systems: the vestibular,
visual, and somatosensory system.” Strupp & Brandt (2008) joined the “mismatch-definition”,
defining vertigo as the symptom of a mismatch of the sensory systems, that play a role in dynamic
spatial orientation.

bout of vertigo; dizzy spell

Some of us - between dizzy spells training for the marathon in years past - prefer a bout of drinking (alcholic beverages rather than soft drinks).

The Schwindel part, unless a Betrug as in Abzocke - is IMO conveyed by the bout or spell - differentiating this answer from the one-worders.
Example sentence:

Vertigo causes dizziness and makes you feel like you're spinning when you're not. This condition can occur for many reasons,

The scientists say that, compared with other types of vertigo, RSV-HSN involves more *severe bouts* of motion sickness.
