The purpose of this research study is to evaluate whether using the Impella CP® System or the Impella CP® with SmartAssist® System (a temporary circulatory assist device) before the catheterization procedure has the potential to reduce the damage to your heart caused by a heart attack compared to the current standard of care (a catheterization procedure).
The study device works by placing a small pump into the left pumping chamber of the heart.
The pump is like a tiny propeller and is sealed inside a protective shell.
The device assists your heart to circulate blood throughout your body.
