Swedish term
Bromsbehandling

Medical (general)
Hi, does anyone know the medical term for bromsbehandling? I don't think 'brake treatment' sounds right, although I do find a few instances where it is used. Context is a patient taking a medication for 'bromsbehandling' of MS (so to slow down the disease rather than cure it).
Thanks

retarding
Not my field but but...
You also see "slowing down" used quite a bit

disease modifying treatment/therapy (drug)
This reference uses both 'disease modifying treatment,' and "disease modify drugs." Without your context I can't really tell. I chose this reference since I've seen your term used many times in reference to aid treatment and medications. But these term are also used in relation to specific MS treatments.
And, btw, without more context 'retarding' describes the effect of these drugs/treatments, so that may also fit your context.

antiretroviral therapy
I found this:
https://www.proz.com/kudoz/swedish-to-english/medical-pharma...
bromsmedicin = medicine with anti-retroviral effect
It would follow that "bromsbehandling" is "antiretroviral therapy"
Objectives: Even though multiple sclerosis (MS) and HIV infection are well-documented conditions in clinical medicine, there is only a single case report of a patient with MS and HIV treated with HIV antiretroviral therapies. In this report, the patient's MS symptoms resolved completely after starting combination antiretroviral therapy and remain subsided for more than 12 years.

Michele Fauble
: MS is not a viral condition.//Still, in the context of MS, ‘bromsbehandling’ is not ‘antiretroviral therapy’.
