German term

Entäußerung

German to English Medical Medical (general)
Good morning! I hope you can assist me quickly...

I have here a text of a patient with epilepsy. History:

Hypermotorische Anfälle: aus dem Schlaf heraus plötzliches Aufrichten des Oberkörpers mit geöffneten Augen, Tonisierung des linken Beines, dann beider Beine und schließlich rhythmische, myokloniforme Entäußerungen beider Beine

What is the exact meaning of Entäußerung?

Please answer only if you know for sure. I could easily guess myself.

Thank you!!

@Susanne: Good ref., thanks! It seems to confirm Brent's suggestion.
Susanne Schiewe Feb 2, 2021:
There seem to be positive and negative phenomena; but as they are described as "rhythmisch", I think it is clear that positive p. are meant here.

Epileptische Anfälle führen oft zu kognitiven, sensiblen, sensorischen oder motorischen Entäußerungen, die als „positive“ Phänomene angesehen werden. „Negative“ Phänomene, d.h. der passagere Ausfall z.B. motorischer Funktionen sind eher postiktal bekannt, wie bei der Todd'sche Parese.

During her hospital stay, the patient daily experienced these myoclonic phenomena with isolated jerks or flurries of repetitive jerks, involving the trunk, legs, and occasionally the arms.

There might be a more literal translation, but this seems to be commonly used in this context.

/ uncontrolled / reflex myoclonus

I'd avoid 'jerk' for US Am consumption. A relative of mine in the States long ago built up a 'soda jerk' bar business.
Example sentence:

Involuntary movements compose a group of uncontrolled movements that may ... (action myoclonus) or as a result of a stimulus (startle or reflex myoclonus).
