English to Russian Tech/Engineering Engineering: Industrial Qualification of Faults on Cable Samples

The majority of these faults may be identified as lumps. Some faults, e.g. #5, show a very smooth gradient while increasing the diameter and an abrupt decrease in the fault’s centre. These faults may also be identified as a neck by the gauges. Faults #1, #3 and #4 show very small dimensions that are below the specifications of the LUMP 2010T gauges.


All faults are measured after being aligned to maximum sensitivity on the X-axis. The test is repeated at two different speeds of 0.5 m/s and 3 m/s equivalent to production line-speeds of 30 m/min and 180 m/min respectively. The faults are scanned in both directions causing a lump event in one direction and a neck event in the opposite direction or vice versa depending on the fault shape. Per direction the procedure is repeated ten times. In contrast to the procedure used for the report of July 30th, 2018 the faults are aligned to the X-axis only. Alignment to Y- and T-axis has been omitted to shorten the overall testing time and to keep the amount of data in a reasonable range. The previous report already proved comparable behaviour on all axes.

Faults #2 and #6 show not only detections on the X-axis the fault has been aligned to, but also on the T-axis. These detections always happened in the opposite direction after being detected on the X-axis and were caused by a different feature of the same fault that was seen first on the T-axis.
