number of times a child has sent somewhere to reflect on behaviour and make a better choice
Many years ago naughty children were made to wear a dunce's cap. Later they were just sent to stand in a corner. Younger ones had to sit on a "naughty step". Now they are told to think about their bad behaviour and make a better choice of action. So it's a count of the number of times this has been done to a child.
