Bougie as a medical term denotes a thin, flexible surgical instrument for exploring or dilating a passage of the body.(Dictionary .com). In endourology, the term applies to a dilator especially when referring to the catheterization and ulterior dilation of a hollow organ (ureter:urethra) or if the access to an organ is by way of the skin and underlying tissue (percutaneous) a bougie will be employed to dilate the trajectory from the skin to the kidney in order to accommodate the scope to be employed together with it'
s accessories and also to dilate the tract in order to allow the stone to be extracted. Modern systems today employ one step bougies rather than telescopic ones.

2. Preparación medicamentosa en forma de un delgado cilindro destinado a ser introducido en la uretra.

3. En otro tiempo, unidad de intensidad luminosa que daba aproximadamente la misma iluminación que una bujía ordinaria del comercio; ha sido reemplazada por la candela o bujía nueva.

Bujía de Béniqué. Catéter de estaño que presenta una doble curvatura, destinada a adaptarse al trayecto de la uretra y empleado en el tratamiento de las estrecheces. La diferencia de diámetro entre dos números consecutivos es de 1/6 de milímetro; es la mitad de la escala Charriére y un número 30 Béniqué, por ejemplo, corresponde a un 15 Charriére. (Estas bujías se designan comúnmente por el nombre de su inventor, Béniqué).

Bujía de Hegar. Serie de tallos cilíndricos rígidos, cuyo diámetro aumenta I mm por bujía y que sirven para obtener la dilatación extemporánea del cuello del útero. Tallo de Hegar.

agree  Chema Nieto Castañón: Dilatador telescópico. Lo de bugía no sé de dónde lo sacas; tu explicación en cambio es fantástica. Dilatador es el término común en castellano en este ámbito; dilatador telescópico. Obviamente el agree es por la explicación, no por la respuesta ;)
