Variables are named internal memory objects inside of a Java app. Variables are invisible from outside (security!), except if the programmer of the Java app provides & documents a dedicated way/method/api for acess/exchange to/of a certain exactly defined data subset. Even the clipboard feature works on this condition only - it only looks as if it were generic because nearly all programmers include it.
